HDBarcode — Secure 2D Codes for HP Indigo
Optimization of encrypted high-density 2D codes for HP Indigo printing.
Overview
A collaboration with HDBarcode, a U.S.-based company specializing in secure high-density 2D codes, to validate and optimize their technology for HP Indigo digital printing.
The project focused on adapting HDBarcode’s CypherCode and MultiCode technologies to fully leverage the resolution and print characteristics of HP Indigo presses.
Business challenge
Enable secure, high-density data storage within compact printed codes while maintaining reliable readability and authentication under real production printing conditions.
Unlike conventional QR codes, HDBarcode’s technology relies on more complex visual structures, which require careful tuning to ensure consistent print quality and scannability.
Solution
- Evaluated CypherCode, a proprietary encrypted high-density 2D barcode technology
- Optimized code structures for HP Indigo print resolution and imaging behavior
- Tested print quality and scanning reliability under realistic production conditions
- Supported integration discussions with the HP Indigo Secure team
CypherCodes encode encrypted information directly within the printed symbol and may incorporate visual elements such as varying line patterns, dots, and even embedded color images.
Impact
Demonstrated that HDBarcode’s high-density secure codes can be reliably printed and validated using HP Indigo technology without requiring specialized printing equipment.
The collaboration helped position the technology for secure identification, authentication, and variable coding applications across packaging and product protection workflows.
