Honey Package — Anti-Counterfeit Protection
Premium packaging combining generative design with anti-counterfeit authentication.
Overview
A premium honey packaging concept combining generative design with product authentication and anti-counterfeit protection.
The project was developed by SCRIBOS and KURZ with my guiding how to use HP Collage, Mosaic and Spark, exploring how variable design and security technologies can work together to protect product authenticity while maintaining a visually rich premium package.
Business challenge
Honey is one of the most frequently counterfeited food products, often diluted or replaced with sugar substitutes.
The challenge was to create packaging that would:
- authenticate each product
- deter counterfeiting
- maintain a strong premium shelf presence
- provide an engaging customer experience.
Solution
- Generated unique visual designs for every package and label using HP Spark, Collage, and Mosaic
- Distributed bee illustrations across the package using algorithmic rules controlling position, orientation, and scale
- Created diverse honeycomb backgrounds using Mosaic generative graphics
- Assigned a unique metallic three-character identifier to each label
- Integrated SCRIBOS ValiGate® copy-protected QR codes for product authentication
Each package becomes visually unique while remaining part of a cohesive brand design.
Consumer experience
The packaging was designed as an interactive storytelling experience.
A die-cut opening in the package reveals the interior hive structure as the user unwraps the product, visually guiding the consumer deeper into the honeycomb environment.
When scanning the ValiGate® QR code, users are taken to the SCRIBOS authentication platform, where the system verifies the product and displays the matching digital bee arrangement associated with that specific package.
Consumers can then compare the bees shown on their smartphone with those on the physical product in a gamified authenticity check.
Impact
By combining generative design with secure authentication technology, the project demonstrates how packaging can simultaneously enhance brand aesthetics, consumer engagement, and product protection.
Each package and label becomes unique, strengthening consumer trust while deterring counterfeit products.
