Moment Café — Preserving a Paris Moment
Personalized coffee labels that turn a specific café moment into something you can take home and experience again.
Overview
Moment Café explores a simple question: can a label preserve a moment?
The concept imagines a traveller sitting in a small Parisian café and taking that experience home through a personalized coffee label. The label records the exact time of the café moment and pairs it with a coffee aroma selected to evoke the mood of that part of the day.
Developed in collaboration with Emir Ramic / etikett.de, the project combines storytelling, personalization, packaging, and variable-data technology to turn an everyday coffee package into a personal souvenir.
Business challenge
Create a label experience that feels genuinely personal rather than simply customized.
The design needed to connect several changing elements—the time of day, visual atmosphere, product identity, and aroma—while remaining coherent as a single premium coffee brand. Every variation had to feel unique to the individual moment but unmistakably part of the same Moment Café family.
Solution
- Developed a rule-based personalization system around the exact time of the café experience
- Created coordinated visual variations that change with the character of the day, from morning through night
- Connected each time-based design to a corresponding coffee aroma and mood
- Built the concept as a scalable variable-data application suitable for digital label production
- Preserved a consistent visual language across all personalized variations
The result transforms time itself into a design parameter: typography, color, imagery, and product expression work together to make each label a record of a particular moment in Paris.
Impact
Moment Café demonstrates how personalized print can move beyond names and graphics to capture context, memory, and emotion.
A coffee label becomes more than packaging: it becomes a physical reminder of a place, a time, and a sensory experience that can be revisited long after the original café visit.
The project was nominated for the Druck & Medien Awards, highlighting the potential of variable-data printing to create meaningful, emotionally engaging packaging experiences.
